I'm Henry, a Level 3 qualified personal trainer and I live in Huddersfield. My one-to-one sessions run from The Unit Fitness in Halifax, which is a straightforward run over from most of Huddersfield and well worth the trip for the right coaching.
Huddersfield is home for me. I grew up around here and I still live locally, so I know the area and I know what training options look like around town.
My sessions themselves run from The Unit Fitness in Halifax, which for most of Huddersfield is roughly twenty to thirty minutes by car depending on where you set off from. If you are coming from the Lindley or Salendine Nook side you are looking at the shorter end of that.
It is a fair question whether that trip is worth it when there are gyms on your doorstep. My honest answer: if you want general gym instruction, probably not, and you should train somewhere convenient. If you specifically want calisthenics and bodyweight skill coaching, that is a lot harder to find locally, and that is where I think the drive pays off.
Most personal training is built around machines, free weights and general conditioning. My focus is different. I coach calisthenics and functional bodyweight strength, which means using your own body as the resistance and building toward genuine skill.
This is a genuine specialism rather than something I list alongside twenty others. It is what I train myself and it is what I am best at coaching.
Calisthenics has a reputation for being advanced, and photos of people doing planches on Instagram do not help. In practice it is one of the most beginner-friendly ways to train, because the progressions are gradual and you need almost no equipment.
If you cannot do a single pull-up right now, that is a completely normal place to start and there is a clear path from there. I would rather work with someone honest about being at the beginning than someone pretending otherwise.
Sessions are one-to-one, so the whole hour is yours. We work to a plan built around your goals rather than a template, and the plan changes as you do.
Alongside the in-person work you get access to the You Matter More platform for logging your training between sessions, so nothing gets lost between one week and the next. More about the platform here.
Sessions are paid upfront by bank transfer. Blocks work out cheaper per session, and the more you book, the longer you get to use them.
| Sessions | Price | Per session |
|---|---|---|
| Single session | £40 | £40 |
| Block of 5 | £190 | £38 |
| Block of 10 | £370 | £37 |
| Block of 15 | £540 | £36 |
| Block of 20 | £700 | £35 |
If you are not a member of The Unit Fitness, there is a £5 gym entry fee per session paid directly to the gym (a half-price day pass). If you train regularly it may work out cheaper to join as a member. I'll go through all of this with you when we chat.
Full booking, cancellation and expiry terms are set out in the terms of service.
